Cipinang Besar Utara Closes Four Temporary Waste Collection Sites

Four temporary waste collection sites on Jalan DI Panjaitan, Cipinang Besar Utara Urban Village (CBU), Jatinegara, East Jakarta, are no longer in use after being deemed poorly managed, with waste often spilling onto sidewalks and the road and affecting the cleanliness of the surrounding area.

The sidewalks and road shoulders are clean and free from odors caused by accumulated waste

Cipinang Besar Utara Urban Village Head Andi Agung Yasser said the four TPS had served residents in RW 03 and RW 07.

Jakarta Provincial Government to Announce Companies Illegally Dumping Waste

"Starting today, we are dismantling and closing the four TPS on Jalan DI Panjaitan because waste must not be placed on sidewalks," he said on Monday (8/10).

Andi explained that one TPS in RW 07 measured around 6 by 3 meters, while the other three in RW 03 each measured around 3 by 1 meter.

According to him, the closures were necessary because the TPS had become increasingly disorganized, with waste piling up at the sites and spilling onto sidewalks and the road.

"A total of 63 Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling (PPSU) personnel were deployed to dismantle the four TPS," he emphasized.

After the dismantling, the former TPS sites were immediately cleaned. Personnel sprayed the areas with water from a fire truck before scrubbing them with detergent.

"This was done to ensure the sidewalks and road shoulders are clean and free from odors caused by accumulated waste," he explained.

Andi assured residents that closing the four TPS would not mean waste collection services would be discontinued. Instead, the urban village administration has provided garbage bins in every alley, from which personnel will collect the waste.

"In addition to providing replacement facilities, we are also taking preventive measures to ensure the former TPS sites do not become illegal dumping sites again," he noted.

The urban village administration will also set up monitoring posts at several locations and install banners prohibiting illegal dumping, Andi added. These measures are expected to prevent residents from dumping waste again at the closed TPS sites.

"We hope residents will comply with the ban and no longer dump waste at the former TPS sites," he said.
